550 Squadron Photos

P/O R A Jones and Crew

The P/O Jones crew were posted to 550 Sqdn from RAF Station, Elsham Wolds w.e.f 19.3.44:

A note later in the 550 Sqdn Operations Record Book (ORB) states "Posted to No. 330 Sqdn on 12.6.44 for the formation of an English Flight on a Polish Sqdn."
In fact http://www.raf.mod.uk/history/bombercmdsquadrons.cfm does NOT list a 330 Sqdn as a Bomber Command squadron (only 300, 301, 304 and 305 listed as Polish Sqdns). There was a 330 Sqdn in Coastal Command (see: http://www.rafweb.org/Sqn330-352.htm). So it appears that the 550 ORB has an error in this listing of the transfer out posting.
A page from the 300 Sqdn ORB confirms that the typo is indeed in the 550 ORB, with ca. 18 ex-550 aircrew (and a number from 626 Sqdn and elswhere), including the F/Sgt H White and P/O RA Jones crews, transferring in on 12th and 15th June 1944. Thanks to Mark Simpson for providing the information.

To conclude, therefore, this crew was posted out on 12.6.44 to No. 300 Sqdn for the formation of an English Flight on this Polish Sqdn.
