Remember the Many - Kelso Robinson

It is time again to remember the many.
The sailors who drowned in icy seas.
The men wading ashore on D-Day,
With salt-water above their knees

Perhaps most of all we remember,
The brave pilots of Fighter Command.
The Few who on who we had depended,
When we faced a dire threat to this land.

We will always remember that brave few,
But should not forget the many who crewed
The bombers. Fifty five thousand men died,
The survival rate was just one in two.

They were all we had in the darkest days,
To take the heart of the foe,
And they do not stick to the Queensbury Rules,
When two nations fight toe to toe.

Politicians who'd ordered the bombing,
After the war was won, to their great shame,
Tried to wash their hands of guilt in public.
I do not need mention a name.

War is a terrible business,
As some terrible things were done then,
But the man who flew in the bombers
Were brave and honourable men.

Honour the heroes of Bomber Command.
By a few they are now decried.
They did what the nation asked of them.
And over half of them died.
