Dear Sir or Madam, On April 12th 2014 at 3:00pm, the village of Artolsheim in Alsace will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the crash of the British bomber-type Lancaster from no.550 Squadron Royal Air Force. This plane went down on our village during the night of March 15th 1944, killing the 7 members of its crew, six Englishmen and one Canadian. So this tragedy does not fade from memory, a stele will be inaugurated on the site of the crash in memory of these young aviators fighting for our freedom. It would be a great honour if a member of the 550 Squadron Association could attend this ceremony to highlight how important this event was for the people who witnessed it, for the victims, for the families and also to relay it to the next generations.
