F/O Packham and Crew

F/O Packham flew with the following crew:

Failed to return from a raid on the night of 16/17 June 1944 to Sterkade when LL747 was hit by flak and one of the engines destroyed. All the crew survived the crash to become PoWs. The crew had only been with 550 Squadron for a couple of weeks.

Sgt J.Jackson was interned in Camp L7 (PoW No.459) with Sgt J.Matthews (PoW No.177), Sgt C.C.Pettit (PoW No.184), Sgt E.J.Morgan (PoW No.178) and Sgt F.A.Willson (PoW No.201). Sgt J.S.Jenkins initially evaded but was captured in Antwerp 27 July 1944 and interned in Camp L7 (PoW No.593). Pilot G Packham was sent to Stalag Luft I at Barth on the Baltic coast; the camp was liberated on 2 May 1945 by the advancing Russians.

F/O Geoffery Packham

F/O Packham was only on the squadron for two weeks before being shot down, and then had the misfortune of ending up in a bogus escape line and ultimately handed over to Gestapo.
